One of the first classes I took for my Master's program was about using technology in education. I had to create a blog for that class. You can view my old blog here. My conclusion is what comes up first as it was the last assignment that we had. You can scroll back through to see other tech projects that we did for the class. Blogger is very simple and user friendly. I have not used it since that class finished, but I'm finding that it is all coming back to me quickly. The user guides are very helpful.
I have not used blogs with students because in the past blogger was blocked on our computers at school. We now have google chrome download to all computers and I'm on blogger at school right now. I'll have to have my students check and see if they can access blogger as well. If so, I would definitely look into using for class!
I look forward to hearing about how people have used blogs in the classroom and/or library!
I hope your students do have access to blogger now -- at least to be able to read your blog if not to post their own blogs. There really are legitimate security concerns and I think it's hard for administrators to balance giving teachers enough rope and keeping the school safe.
ReplyDeleteI haven't used blogs yet in my classroom, and after reading Anne's post, I should probably have a quick discussion with my administrator about it before I do. I think my students can access blogger at school, and after I get some practice, I am excited to start using it.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like my school has a similar problem. I know that everything is linked to Internet Explorer which seems to inhibit access to many sights. I think the security issue is a big obstacle and needs to be addressed district wide. I am excited to learn ideas about blogging and hope to learn lots.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your blog from your 515 tech class. It's neat to see how it was set up and what you did. I need to take some time to read the user guides and just spend more time on blogger rather than just do the assignment, write everything down or print it and not get to it until months later. It's true that keeping up with blogging is very important and the more time spent on it the easier it will be to manage. I hope my students will be able to blog as well as we have lots of blocking of sites. As Anne said, at the least, they will be able to read so that will be a good beginning.
